The month of October is a great month for sunny days, cool breezes, and expanding your family with a new rescue dog.

According to www.animalshelter.org:

8-10 million dogs and cats enter shelters each year

3-4 million dogs and cats are euthanized by shelters each year

3-4 million dogs and cats are adopted from shelters each year

There are 4,000-6,000 animal shelters in the U.S.

25% of purebred dogs are in shelters

A female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in six years.

Between 600,000 and 750,000 dogs and cats are reclaimed by owners each year from animal shelters.

Chances are there is a wonderful doggie waiting for you at your local animal shelter.

If you are not in a position to adopt a pet right now, you can still help improve animals’ lives. You can volunteer your time or donate directly to the shelter.
